The thermal transfer ribbon used in label printers must be selected based on your label material, printer model, and durability requirements. Thermal transfer technology transfers ink from the ribbon onto the label paper by heating the printhead.
Three Main Types of Ribbons and Applicable Materials: Choosing the wrong ribbon type can result in blurry or easily flaked text.
Wax Ribbon
Features: Lowest cost, low printing temperature requirement.
Suitable Labels: Plain coated paper, writing paper.
Common Uses: General logistics labels, waybills, outer carton labels.
Disadvantages: Poor scratch and chemical resistance; text is easily damaged by friction.
Wax/Resin Ribbon
Features: Combines the advantages of wax and resin, higher clarity, moderate durability.
Suitable Labels: High-gloss coated paper, synthetic paper, some film materials.
Common Uses: Refrigerated food labels, pharmaceutical product labels, product labels requiring moderate abrasion resistance.
Resin Ribbon
Features: Highest cost, excellent abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance.
Suitable Labels: PET, PVC, synthetic paper, care labels.
Common Applications: Electronic component labels, chemical container markings, automotive parts.
TTO Thermal Transfer Overprinter Ribbon
This is an industrial-grade consumable specifically designed for TTO thermal transfer coding machines. It is widely used for instant coding on flexible packaging (such as plastic film and aluminum foil) in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries, such as production dates, batch numbers, QR codes, and ingredient lists.
Compared to ordinary desktop label printer ribbons, TTO ribbons offer higher printing speeds (up to 600mm/s and above) and excellent adhesion to meet the demands of high-speed production lines.
Key Specifications for TTO Ribbons
TTO ribbon specifications differ significantly from regular ribbons and must be matched to specific printer models:
* Width and Length: Common widths are 30mm, 33mm, 35mm, and 55mm; lengths are typically 500m, 600m, 900m, or 1100m to reduce replacement frequency.
Printers: Videojet, Markem-Imaje, Domino, Linx
Technical Specifications for TTO Ribbons
Before purchasing, you must confirm the ribbon specifications supported by your printer:
* Ribbon Width: Must be greater than or equal to the label paper width to protect the print head from wear and tear by the label edges.
* Core Size: Commonly 0.5 inches (for desktop printers) or 1 inch (for industrial printers).
* Length: Desktop printers typically support 74m-100m; industrial printers support 300m-450m.
Ink Direction: Divided into Outer Carbon (CSO/Ink Out) and Inner Carbon (CSI/Ink In). Most brands, such as Zebra and TSC, use Outer Carbon.
Width 闊度: 35, 55, 110mm 毫米 1/2" 或 1" 芯 core
